Almost as unusual as the suspension monorail is the Wuppertal "Schwimmoper" (lit. "Swimming Opera"). In the 50s, people thought about building an opera house here, but then a swimming pool was built – hence the name. The spectacular building is now a historical monument.

If you look up the street on the left just before entering the next train station, you can take a look at the main building of the Bergische Universität. Around 23,000 young people study there.
